Step 1 — Get Your Learner's Licence (Class 7)
Before you can begin driving, you'll need to obtain your Learner's Licence.
- Meet the minimum age requirement
- Pass the Knowledge Test
- Pass the Vision Test
- Provide acceptable identification
- Pay the applicable government fee
Step 2 — Study the Nova Scotia Driver's Handbook
The Driver's Handbook is the official study guide for new drivers in Nova Scotia. Topics include road signs, rules of the road, right of way, parking, speed limits, highway driving, winter driving, defensive driving, and safe driving practices.
Step 3 — Complete Driver Education
Completing a government-approved Driver Education Program helps you become a safer, more confident driver.

Step 4 — Book Your Road Test
Once you're eligible, you can book your official Class 5 Road Test.

- Your Driver's Licence

- Roadworthy Vehicle

- Valid Insurance
- Valid Motor Vehicle Inspection
Step 5 — Prepare for Success
Increase your confidence before test day with professional training from East Coast Driving Academy. Our instructors can help you correct common driving mistakes, improve observation skills, practice parking maneuvers, build confidence, complete a mock road test, and practice on common test routes.
